The annual On Air Residency is an opportunity for emerging audio talent to create and premiere new work at On Air Fest. The residency is open to artists, editors and producers with an idea that has not been previously broadcasted, performed or exhibited to a large audience. Entries can take any form: poetry, narrative, sculptural, performance-based, fiction, field recording, ambient, interview, documentary, a hybrid or a surprise, as long as audio is the hero.
We encourage applications that reimagine what an audio work can be, emphasize experimentation and defy easy categorization.
In 2018 we announced our commitment to support emerging audio artists and storytellers. Our inaugural On Air Residency was awarded to ‘Drill Meditations,’ an immersive sound and dance performance by Nola Hanson and Nicky S. Smith, members of the Trans Boxing Collective. As members of the trans and QTPOC communities, Nola & Nicky are deeply invested in exploring the ways in which embodied practices such as boxing, dance, and meditation, can be used to transform suffering and achieve collective liberation.
