ARTIST STATEMENT:
"Last fall, I got to know a community of dippers along the Maine coast, ages 30-something to 70-something. These women described what happens in their minds and bodies as they walk into the wintry sea and linger there for several minutes, and how this practice changes their days. They reflected on their relationships with the cold and dark, sobriety, pregnancy (and pregnancy loss), and themselves. The piece, structured as a journey into and out of the icy ocean, also became a reflection on self-determination, community, and the power we all have to choose to change our own lives."
